Item Description
Amazon Best Books of the Month, May 2010 As the finale to Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest is not content to merely match the adrenaline-charged pace that made international bestsellers out of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Girl Who Played with Fire. Instead, it roars with an explosive storyline that blows the doors off the series and announces that the very best has been saved for last. A familiar evil lies in wait for Lisbeth Salander, but this time, she must do more than confront the miscreants of her past; she must destroy them. Much to her chagrin, survival requires her to place a great deal of faith in journalist Mikael Blomkvist and trust his judgment when the stakes are highest. To reveal more of the plot would be criminal, as Larsson's mastery of the unexpected is why millions have fallen hard for his work. But rest assured that the odds are again stacked, the challenges personal, and the action fraught with neck-snapping revelations in this snarling conclusion to a thrilling triad. This closing chapter to The Girl's pursuit of justice is guaranteed to leave readers both satisfied and saddened once the final page has been turned. --Dave Callanan

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest is the third installment of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy by Stieg Larson. Out of the three, for me this ranks second. I liked the second book the best, but this was close. It starts where The Girl Who Played with Fire leaves off with Salander in the hospital and under arrest for a vast array of charges. The majority of the book consists of Salander's closest confidants in journalism, the police, hackers, and even in the hospital to work out the real truth behind the murders and her horrible past.
The first part of the book was slow as it unravelled all the people involved in the Zalachenko web; however, the last say 20% was great. Once the court room procedure began I couldn't put in down until the very end. Salander was an incredible character; I couldn't get enough of her attitude, brash actions, incredible intelligence and cunning resourcefulness.
The trilogy started off painful, but turned into a strong series. I will watch the films for sure, and anticipate the American films as well. Unfortunately Stieg Larsson died before the books were published, but I have heard rumours that a fourth manuscript was written. We will have to wait and see how the movies turn out, and how much if any truth there is to another book. For now the trilogy was well worth the time.
Lisbeth wins again.

Great end to the three stories. The author sheds more light on some of the events that transpired in the first two books. I hated that the book ended. Actually slowed down to prolong the pleasure. Wish there were more coming.
leave lots of time for the last third of the book!

I finished The Girl Who Played with Fire and immediately ordered this book - thanks, Amazon, for quick delivery. At first I was disappointed - too many characters introduced, almost Russian-novel cast of characters all with -berg or -ski in their last names. And the main character Salander hardly appears. Then he began to tie them all together. The book picks up speed, you forget to breathe, and read until 3 am.
I was the director of domestic violence shelters for 10 years, so of course this book has a special interest for me. I also share the author's belief in democracy and though he seems touchingly innocent at times about the triumph of justice, I loved the thought of a prime minister determined to see law upheld.
Great window into modern Swedish society, as well
Wish there were more!

I read these books just waiting for the next twist. Lisbeth is one of the greatest characters I have ever read. Wishing that an author was still living isn't something I've done often, but I really wish we could have more Lisbeth and Blomkvist.
Lisbeth getting her revenge was gratifying since she still managed to do it mostly on her own terms. Enjoy this trio...then get the movie of the first book, you won't be disappointed!
